Morning Session

All our venues are close to the airport. Upon arrival a tea and coffee reception starts the day giving you an opportunity to meet the team prior to the morning presentation by the pilots. There is strong evidence to suggest the lack of knowledge about how an aircraft flies and how it is operated by the pilots is one of the main causes of people's fear of flying. The British Airways Pilots give a detailed talk, illustrated by slides, explaining the technical side of aviation and the many associated subjects. Included in the topics are ATC, security and turbulence.

Lunch/Refreshments

This is a very useful time to meet and chat to the other participants as it is important to realise that you are not alone in your fear.

Afternoon Session

The Clinical Psychologist will talk about the psychological aspects of aerophobia, the mechanics of fear and how best to deal with anxiety and panicky feelings. Lack of control, claustrophobia, fear of tube trains, lifts, heights and fear of falling are the concerns of many nervous passengers. The psychologist will give some positive ways of coping with and minimising these fears and will conduct a relaxation session just prior to the flight.

The Flight

The flight on an aircraft lasts 45 minutes. Passengers are accompanied by a team of Psychologists, Pilots and Cabin Crew. One of the pilots will give a running commentary explaining the various phases of flight from the flight deck. This aspect of the course has been found to be very reassuring for nervous passengers and helps them to cope with future flights.
